Why did the Rich peasant communities become active in the Civil Disobedience Movement?
Ans.
1) Rich peasant communities –like Patidars of Gujarat and the Jatts of Uttar Pradeshwere active in the movement.
2) Being producers of cash crops, they were very hard hit by the trade depression and falling prices.
3) As their cash income disappeared, they found it impossible to pay the government’s revenue demand. And the refusal of the government to reduce the revenue demand led to wide spread resentment.
4) Due to this reason rich peasants become enthusiastic supporters of the civil Disobedience Movement.
