Question 3. Express the following as improper fractions-

(a) 7 3/4
(b) 5 6/7
(c) 2 5/6
(d) 10 3/5
(e) 9 3/7
(f) 8 4/9

Solution –

(a) 7 3/4 = 7 × 4 + 3/4 = 31/4 ∴ 7 3/4 = 31/4

(b) 5 6/7 = 5 × 7 + 6/7 = 41/7 ∴ 5 6/7 = 41/7

(c) 2 5/6 = 2 × 6 + 5/6 = 17/6 ∴ 2 5/6 = 17/6

(d) 10 3/5 = 10 × 5 + 3/5 = 53/5 ∴ 10 3/5 = 53/5

(e) 9 3/7 = 9 × 7 + 3/7 = 66/7 ∴ 9 3/7 = 66/7

(f) 8 4/9 = 8 × 9 + 4/9 = 76/9 ∴ 8 4/9 = 76/6
